We are very excited to begin a new school year, and we welcome you to Jefferson! Middle school is an adventurous time of life for our students. They will have many new experiences as they change teachers and classes… take music, science tech, drama, and art… have the opportunity to participate in sports, academic clubs/teams, Student Council, and more. We hope that whatever experiences they may have, that their time here at Jefferson will be memorable and successful!
To help students start on the path to success, we have some tips below:
To be prepared for classes your child will need a 3”, 3-ring binder. In that binder your child will need 8-divider tabs. Please label them in order of your child’s class schedule.
For example, if your child has 1st period Math, 2nd period ELA, and 3rd period Social Studies/Science they will need to label their 1st tab: Math, 2nd tab: ELA, 3rd tab: Social Studies, and 4th tab: Science. They will also need to label for Health, Encore, and AVID, Resource, or FLEX (depending on their schedule). The 8th tab should labeled “Misc.” for miscellaneous.
In the math section, your child will need an additional 5-divider tabs. They are to be labeled: Investigations, ACE, OTHER, Tests/Quizzes, and VOCAB. Loose-leaf paper will need to be placed behind the Investigations and ACE tabs.
Your child will be expected to bring this binder to every class. It should also hold a pencil pouch with pencils, pens, a highlighter, eraser, hand-held pencil sharpener, and possibly scissors and/or glue stick. The organization and use of the binder will be enforced in all classes and will be checked in your child’s AVID/Resource/Flex class. You can help your child stay organized by ensuring that papers are in the correct sections and that nothing is loose enough to fall out!
In addition to supplies and organization… HOMEWORK PAGE COMING SOON!
We will be starting a homework page online for you and your child to check homework daily. We expect your child to write assignments down in a planner or a planner sheet. However, we realize that this step is sometimes forgotten. The homework page online will help when this occurs. Be on the lookout for a link to the homework page on our school website in the TEAMS section and in a later post.
THANK YOU for your support of your child’s education and your patience as we try this new format to sharing information with you this year.
